What makes working with students meaningful for you?
I appreciate working with students, particularly at Texas State, because they bring such varied experiences and viewpoints to our discussions. Working with students helps me to become more empathetic and understanding, which are traits I value.
What’s one project or event you love being a part of?
I love being a part of commencement ceremonies. As faculty, we have front row seats, which means I get to see each of my graduating students pass by on their way to the stage. I feel such pride in what students have accomplished, and I love hearing their families and friends cheer them on.
What accomplishment at TXST has meant the most to you?
Being able to co-present with my students at national academic conferences has meant the most to me as a Texas State faculty member. The experience of seeing students recognize that they belong in these settings is special to me.
What inspires you when you come to work each day?
I feel inspired when I am in the classroom having discussions with my students. Whether we are talking about survey research methods or environmental issues or any other sociological topic, these discussions energize me to want to learn more and become a better member of my community.
